I come from an Indian family as well and tumeric (the yellow powder) is an age-old remedy for treating acne and getting fair skin. It also slows down ageing, as my grandmother has been using this since she was very young. She is in her 70s yet she looks like she is in her 40s. Tumeric is really useful to keep around the house as it is also used as in antiseptic for cuts and such. Pretty hand to keep around the house 🙂 But use sparingly, it burns >.<
