Would you recommend using an over the counter shampoo with coal tar, such as the Neutrogena T-Gel, on your face for facial Seborrheic Dermatitis? Everywhere but my forehead seems to have it. There is a clear distinction of where the fungus has spread because it doesn’t tan and you can see the lighter spots stopping right before it reaches an unaffected area. I also have redness and flaking on my nose.A dermatologist prescribed me the 2.5% hydracortisone cream, but it didn’t help.
This type of dandruff is called seborrheic dermatitis and is an inflammatory skin disorder affecting sebaceous-gland-rich areas of skin (which is why affected areas tend to be oily, despite producing flakiness usually characteristic of dry skin). The follicular inflammation is often the result of micro-organisms (namely Malassezia yeasts) and thus may be treated with topical antifungals such as selenium sulfide, salicylic acid, zinc pyrithione sulfur and steroids

Dr.Schultz. Thank you for this post. I have tried and tried and tried many shampoo’s, soaps, creams and I am glad to let you all know that Head and Shoulders (Clean and Balanced) really works. Don’t try any other Head and Shoulders type. Its ONLY the Clean and Balanced. Period!

What causes this type of dandruff? I do have flaky skin in my eyebrows and along my hairline, and it gets pretty bad at times. I often use Selsun Blue shampoo for oily hair and it has helped my dandruff in my hair, but I was wondering if there are any other factors that cause this dandruff “dry skin” outbreak?

I used proactiv for like forever, I loved it but my skin grew accustomed to it and it stopped working. Now nothing helps but prescription stuff :/ It makes my skin sooo dry, I hate it.

I’m so obsessed with wen. I have thick hair and wen cleans it and never feels oily or anything.
Have you tried winter vanilla mint? It smells like a peppermint patty, worth the money, it is amazing…if you like chocolate and peppermint (why its called vanilla I don’t know). Pomegranate is my favorite formula, a bit less heavy than the others. I really like the new kids line too, the scent lingers in them.
I don’t know how much you know about skin/ingredients, but here is a short of the best info Ive learned. For breakouts look for fragrance free unless fragrance comes from essential oils, fyi oils may cause breakouts. Use salicylic acid/witch hazel to prevent, also great for refining pores, and blackheads. Use benzoyl peroxide to kill bacteria, tea tree oil also works. Use sulfur to dry up a pimple. If face is breaking out bad, benzoyl peroxide am whole face, salicylic pm, sulfur (on spots) pm.
